Ulverston business park and Aldi complete

A chunk of the first phase of developer Rawdon Property Group’s £11m Beehive Business Park scheme in south Cumbria, including an 18,600 sq ft supermarket, has completed, with further retail units to come.

The Aldi store opened on Thursday as Ulverston’s first new supermarket in 25 years. Three other buildings in the first phase are nearing completion, including a 12,000 sq ft M&S store, 6,000 sq ft Screwfix Warehouse and a 14,500 sq ft facility for Cumbrian meat processing company Lake District Farmers.

Discussions are taking place with interested parties on the smaller, second phase of the business park, Rawdon Property Group added.

Caddick Construction is the main contractor on the scheme, which is located on an eight-acre site close to the Daltongate business park on the edge of Ulverston.

Rawdon won planning consent for the scheme from South Lakeland District Council in 2018. Brian Scott, the developer’s owner, said: “It is hugely satisfying to achieve handover just over a year after starting construction on the site.

“As the main contractor, Caddick has done a splendid job in driving progress despite some very challenging weather conditions in the early stages, and the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic.”

He added: “There is a great deal of excitement surrounding the opening of two major new retailers in the town. Opening the Beehive will encourage more local people to do their main shopping in Ulverston rather than travelling to Barrow – and attract people from the surrounding communities such as Dalton, Coniston and Grange.”
