Torus reveals Stanley Dock scheme

Affordable homes provider and developer Torus has unveiled plans to regenerate two acres of former industrial land close to Liverpool’s Stanley Dock in a 210-home, £30m project.

The site, on Lightbody Street off Great Howard Street, is adjacent to the start of the Leeds Liverpool Canal. Working with local partners, Torus said it will redevelop the site with 10 three-bedroom townhouses and 200 apartments, including one, two and three-bedroom flats, all available through Rent to Buy.

Alongside residential development, Torus will also bring forward 7,747 sq ft of commercial space, split between new units on the ground floor of the proposed apartment building and the site’s disused railway arches, which are to be refurbished for retail or business purposes. In addition, a landscaped pedestrian link will be incorporated into the development alongside the north edge of the listed Stanley Flight Canal Locks.

Chris Bowen, managing director of Torus Developments, said: “The Stanley Dock complex, alongside which the development is proposed, is integral to Liverpool’s history. The development will make a massive contribution to the ongoing regeneration of Stanley Dock, and the wider Ten Streets area.”

Torus is also advancing a 131-home housing project in Huyton, which is recommended for approval at a special meeting of Knowsley Council’s planning committee this week.
