TfGM names ticket card system

Greater Manchester's new smart ticketing system, which is due to be start being phased in during 2014, will be called get me there.

Transport for Greater Manchester said the name was "chosen to reflect how smart ticketing will make journeys by public transport easier and more flexible, whether by tram, by bus, by train – or any combination of the three."

Passengers will be able to use the scheme by touching their get me there-enabled card or phone on to an electronic validator, which will then check if they have a valid travel card or enough credit in their account to travel.

The installation of get me there validators on Metrolink stops is due to start later this year. The system will be introduced on Metrolink first before being extended to bus operators.

Metrolink passengers can expect to be using get me there in the second half of 2014, bus passengers in 2015 and rail thereafter.

The irony is that tfgm fail to get you there the majority of the time, with constant signal failures and useless metros.

Awful. No humour or wit. Nothing uniquely Mancunian, nothing to be proud of. Obviously a committee decision

Thee things are usually named after aquatic animals. Salamander would have been a good, if meaningless, option or coelacanth in reference to the age of some of the facilities.
