Surf Snowdonia aims to build four-star hotel by 2020
A consultation has started on bringing a four-star, 106-bed hotel to the Surf Snowdonia Adventure Parc, featuring a zip line, events space, spa, and indoor adventure centre, due to open in 2020.
The adventure park at Dolgarrog opened in August 2015, featuring a 300-metre surf lagoon, and now the park’s owners are looking to bring forward a multi-million pound expansion, which is proposed to double the size of the park’s workforce.
A consultation process has now started for the project, designed by Pozzoni Architecture, and Surf Snowdonia is aiming for a start on site in Autumn this year, subject to planning.
The first element, a 1,20 sq ft activity centre, is planned to be open by summer 2019 while the hotel is due welcome its first guests in spring 2020.
Existing “glamping” accommodation will be relocated to make way for the hotel, which will sit alongside the existing surf lagoon, and is set to feature tiered balconies and large landscaped areas. A zip line is set to run across the lagoon linking the hotel to existing facilities.
The proposals will extend the park’s annual season by three months from nine to 12.
A planning application will be submitted for the development once the consultation process completes in July.
Andy Ainscough, managing director of Surf Snowdonia, said: “We’re proud to fly the flag for adventure in North Wales, it’s a brilliant region, and rightly regarded as the UK’s capital of adventure.
“Our plans will build on our established high-quality leisure offer and deliver a landmark destination, not just for North Wales, but for the UK and beyond.”
