Summer start for Assura’s new-look Alty HQ

Having acquired 3 Barrington Road in Altrincham for £8.3m last year, the listed healthcare developer and investor has now won consent to redevelop the 1990s office.

Assura will occupy 9,500 sq ft at 3 Barrington Road and now has planning permission to redevelop the entire 35,000 sq ft building. Hawkins\Brown is leading on design.

“Now we have planning permission we can make the next steps to improve our office and provide a sustainable, modern and innovative working environment for all of our staff,” said Assura chief executive Jonathan Murphy.

“We want to lead by example for a sustainable world and the changes we are making to the building, using our Net Zero Carbon Design Guide, will help us achieve that. We want our office to showcase modern, low-carbon construction methods to set a standard for all our future healthcare projects.”

Assura’s proposals will build on an earlier refurbishment, which completed in 2020, and improve the energy efficiency of the office.

A rooftop amenity space, a planted wall, and new windows would be added under Assura’s plans.

The retrofit aims to be the first NABERS UK-rated office refurbishment in the North West, according to Assura.

Eden Planning is advising Assura on its proposals. The project team also includes MAC, Civic Engineers, Atelier Ten, Ignis, Stephen Levrant Heritage Architecture, and Planit.

Assura is aiming to be on site this summer.
