Story submits plans for 100+ Kendal houses

The final chapter of the 220-home Brigsteer Rise development has begun, with Westmorland & Furness Council now in possession of the fourth phase’s application.

Brigsteer Rise sits within the 27-acre Stainbank Green area, a plot allocated for housing in the area’s local plan.

Story Homes wants to build 108 homes as the last part of the scheme. This figure includes 19 affordable rental properties, 10 first homes, and eight discounted ones. The remaining 71 homes will be on the open market.

The houses range from having one to six bedrooms and would be on the southern edge of the Stainbank Green allocation.

Access to the site would be via Brigsteer Road and from Cedar Grove.

Regarding sustainability goals, Story Homes’ project includes electric vehicle charging capability for each of the homes and a sustainable drainage system capable of handling rainfall from a 100-year event – as well as a 50% allowance for climate change.

David Hayward, land manager at Story Homes Cumbria & Scotland said: “This final development phase would continue to deliver a mix of high-quality homes, in this sought-after location, and would help the council to fully deliver this important housing allocation.

“As well as the provision of affordable homes and new areas of open space, our proposals will support existing local businesses and help create additional employment through new opportunities for local sub-contractors and the supply chain,” he continued.

“A significant amount of work and consideration has gone into designing this next phase of the development, with the intention that it seamlessly fits with the current construction phase, so it’s particularly exciting to submit this planning application.”

The first three phases of Brigsteer are underway, with construction ongoing for the first two (comprising 88 homes) and planning permission secured for the third (26 homes).

You can learn more about the fourth phase by searching application reference number 2023/1061/FPA on Westmorland and Furness’s planning portal.

Asteer Planning is working with Story Homes on the project, as is Urban Green. Other members of the project team include RS Acoustic Engineering, Royal HaskoningDHV, RG Parkins, and TPS.

Story Homes has been busy over the last three months in Cumbria and Lancashire, submitting plans for 187 homes in Culcheth, 117 in Appleby-in-Westmorland, and 118 in Coppull.
