Stockport’s Meadow Mill up for auction
Developer William George Homes is auctioning the 175,000 sq ft grade two-listed building in a joint venture with Allsop Residential, from a starting price of £7.25m.
The Meadow Mill site, on Water Street, was acquired by William George Homes in 2016 after it was put on the market for £2.6m. Stockport Council granted planning permission for 213 apartments for sale and rent in May this year.
Allsop Residential confirmed the aim is to sell the site to another developer when it goes to auction on 26 October. Allsop’s catalogue of sites up for auction is due to be published tomorrow.
If the site does not sell, William George Homes will continue with the development itself.
The seven-storey building was built as a textile mill in 1880 and more recently housed a mix of industrial, leisure, retail and office tenants. Before it was sold to William George Homes it remained 65% vacant and parts of the structure had fallen into disrepair.
The site overlooks the Portwood roundabout, next to Tesco Supermarket and S-Park, on the fringe of the town centre.
CJ Partnership is the architect, and Peter Rowlinson Planning advised on the application.
