Stobart submits scaled down plans for Carlisle Airport
Stobart Air has submitted revised plans to revamp Carlisle Airport after a public inquiry was ordered by Local Government Secretary Hazel Blears.
Details of the new proposals have not been released but are believed to offer a significantly reduced scale of development. Stobart proposes to upgrade the terminal facilities, build a new logistics centre and move its head office to the airport.
The original proposal was passed by Carlisle City Council but only subject to 50 conditions on the planning application. Protestors had argued that the development would impact on the environment by increasing road and air traffic. Stobart later withdrew the application when it was called in for public inquiry.
