Stobart chief welcomes fuel announcement
Andrew Tinkler, chief executive of Cumbrian haulage giant the Stobart Group today welcomed the Chancellor of the Exchequer's announcement that the level of duty paid on fuel will not increase until October.
Tinkler said: "Today's announcement will come as a welcome relief to consumers around the country who have been forced to foot the bill for the rising cost of fuel over recent months.
"As a company, Stobart continues to explore new methods of helping our customers transport their goods in ways that can reduce costs and road miles.
"In the long run, we hope that by offering a variety of transport modes and working even more efficiently, that the any blow from hikes in fuel duty will be felt far less."
The announcement will come as particularly welcome news to the Stobart Group, following the announcement earlier this week of current deals, which include acquiring Cheshire-based rival firm James Irlam and absorbing Carlisle Airport and WA Developments into the group.
Following the deals, Stobart will have net assets of over £320m, operate more than 1,300 trucks, 2,300 trailers and employ over 3,500 people across the UK.
