Silverlane lodges £10m Altrincham resi plans

The developer wants to transform the derelict grade two-listed Bridgeworks warehouse into 32 apartments and construct an office building next door.

Silverlane, which is currently delivering a pair of residential schemes in Eccles, has submitted an application for the mixed-use Altrincham scheme to Trafford Council.

The proposed £10m development would include the conversion and extension of the former mill building to provide a mixture of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments.

In addition, the proposals include a bespoke owner-occupier designed Grade A office building, providing 7,000 sq ft over five floors.

Silverlane acquired the site, located just off Manchester Road in Broadheath, earlier this year from a pair of landowners. One was Peel L&P and the other was a private vendor.

Steven Carnes, managing director at Silverlane, said the scheme presents an opportunity to “rescue an unloved heritage asset”.

“Whilst this development addresses the immediate housing demand, it is important that we can bring this former warehouse back into life to provide a high-quality, mixed-use development where people will want to live and work.

“We have worked closely with the conservation and case officer who share the wider vision to transform this derelict brownfield site.

He added: “This development further embodies our commitment to sustainable urban revitalization”.

The scheme has been designed by Jeffrey Bell Architects and Iceni is the planning consultant.

The application was submitted earlier this month but has yet to be validated.

Altrincham infrastructure, particularly its road network, is already woefully inadequate and adding another significant housing project will simply add more misery to many.

Bore off with the highways concerns!

The best part of GM / Cheshire, Traffic is awful though I guess that’s a sign of success

This looks great, it’s a shame it’s looking at a retail park though.

Anonymous, there’s a simple solution, get out of your car.

Looks great! This site has been in need of development for some time. I’m not sure 32 units are classed as a ‘significant housing project’ @Anonymous. It’s great use of a brownfield site though!

Great use of brownfield , let’s hope there is plenty of parking around there though. Don’t want the cycling bores running over pedestrians any more than they do now.

Love the design. Altrincham is pretty well sorted for public transport, train , tram and bus. Problem is you can’t always rely on them. Between strikes, breakdowns or the most common just not turned up..no reason given…the hours I’ve wasted standing around waiting for whatever excuse to be trotted out. Better connected than most places though.

Anonymous – I’d suggest car drivers are a bigger issue for pedestrians than cyclists. You’re welcome to get the accident stats to disprove this though.

The infra structure cannot take any more traffic in the local area. Get real.
