Scarborough unveils Middlewood Locks plans

Scarborough Development Group plans to build 1m sq ft of mixed-use space on Middlewood Locks in Salford, including nearly 350 residential units and 325,000 sq ft of retail, leisure and offices.

The developer acquired the 21-acre site near Manchester city centre earlier this year from Grant Thornton, administrator to Valley & Vale Properties.

Scarborough's project team includes architects Studio Egret West and development consultants RED Property Service.

The plans include a community or educational building and a sports and leisure facility. The Manchester, Bolton & Bury Canal which passes through the site will be cleaned up and and new woodland planted.

Local people will have the chance to see the plans at the following consultation events:

  • Wednesday 7 November. St Philip's Church, 2 Wilton Place, M3 6FR 3pm to 7pm
  • Friday 9 November. Community Café, the Angel Centre, 1 St Philips Place, M3 6FA 11am to 3pm

Lee Savage, development director of Scarborough, said: "Middlewood Locks is a huge site which has the potential to create a thriving new neighbourhood for Salford, bringing an opportunity for a range of homes and jobs.

"Scarborough Development has worked closely with the local community and come up with what we believe to be a really exciting scheme, so I'm looking forward to revealing the plans and finding out what people think."

A planning application is scheduled to be submitted early in the New Year.
