Salford searches for new CEO

Salford City Council chief executive Jim Taylor is to retire next January after six years in the role. 

The council has started the process of finding Taylor’s replacement and said it hopes to appoint a new chief executive this autumn. 

Taylor took up the position at Salford in 2014 after serving as chief executive of Rochdale Council.

He is retiring to spend more time with his family and friends, according to a statement from the council.  

Taylor said: “Salford is a welcoming, unique city with extraordinary colleagues serving amazing people. It is a city of outstanding opportunity and I am privileged to have been given this role.” 

Salford Mayor Paul Dennett thanked Taylor for his service and said whoever replaces him must be “up to the task of continuing our journey towards an inclusive economy, with affordable housing and well-paid jobs”.  

Taylor’s departure follows that of Chris Findley, former head of planning at Salford City Council, who retired in July after almost three decades at the authority.
