Salford/Peel to sell off more AJ Bell Stadium land

Following the sale of 15 acres close to the ground to Cole Waterhouse, the city council and its joint venture partner are to sell another 4.5 acres to Chancerygate.

CosCos, the JV between Salford City Council and Peel L&P that owns the stadium and the surrounding land, is to meet next week to finalise the sale of land known as plot three for in excess of £8.5m.

Chancerygate is understood to be in line to acquire the site and is drawing up plans for a 100,000 sq ft industrial scheme.

According to an indicative site plan, Chancerygate wants to build 14 units ranging from 5,000 sq ft to 11,600 sq ft.

UMC Architects is leading on the scheme’s design.

Earlier this week, Cole Waterhouse submitted an application to develop a 300,000 sq ft industrial scheme on another development plot close to the stadium.

By selling off land around the ground, Salford City Council aims to recoup the loan it issued to CosCos in 2010 to develop the AJ Bell Stadium, which is currently used by Sale Sharks and Salford Red Devils.
