Rowland seeks consent for beefed-up Blackpool plan
The housebuilder wants to increase the number of homes it can deliver on the 22-acre former Bispham High School site from 176 to 200.
Blackpool Council, which owns the land, gave itself permission in principle to redevelop the site in 2021. However, a formal decision notice has not been signed in the intervening years.
Rowland Homes is now seeking permission for a refreshed plan, which comprises 200 homes on the pair of sites off Regency Gardens and Headfort Close, 24 more than previously proposed.
Blackpool Council has recommended its planning committee approves the scheme at a meeting next week.
Sport England objected to the earlier proposal due to the loss of sports pitches but stated it would remove its objection if Blackpool contributed £442,000 to the creation of a new facility at Stanley Park.
The beefed-up proposal does not mention any mitigation measures for the loss of the sports pitches, as a result, Sport England has upheld its objection.
Despite this Blackpool Council’s planning department has recommended the scheme be approved.

too many houses being built in bispham, it used to be a green belt, but is now full of new housing and industrial estates. What a shame.
