Restaurant writer headlines NRB Debate
The author of best-selling restaurant management guide The Art of The Restaurateur will discuss the universal rules of running a restaurant, and how they apply to the booming Northern hospitality scene at the Northern Restaurant & Bar trade show in Manchester in March.
Nick Lander, writer, consultant, restaurateur and author, will be the headline speaker of the NRB Debate 2015. Taking place at the Northern Restaurant & Bar exhibition on 17 March this compelling question-and-answer session, chaired by the event's chief executive, Thom Hetherington, will be a unique opportunity for passionate hospitality professionals to hear Lander discuss his thoughts on the universal rules of running restaurants, distilled from conversations with the world's most prestigious operators.
Mancunian Lander, Financial Times restaurant critic for more than 25 years, met restaurateurs including Danny Meyer in New York, Russell Norman in London and Neil Perry in Sydney when writing the book.
Lander said: "I'm thrilled to be invited to speak at the NRB Debate, and delighted to return to the city that first titillated my tastebuds."
He added: "The region's food and drink scene is clearly blossoming so it will be fascinating to discuss the Art of the Restaurateur and its application in the North."
According to Hetherington, Lander's presence is a coup for the NRB debate as well as for Manchester and the North. "I am personally a massive fan of the book, and Nick – as a hugely respected food writer and a restaurateur of some repute – brilliantly articulates the intangible but steely magic that makes the difference between good restaurants and great ones. The art of the restaurateur is a difficult thing to master, but Nick's book, which was named Economist Book of the Year, certainly helps to reaffirm some important principles."
The NRB Debate will take place in Manchester on Tuesday 17 March at the Northern Restaurant & Bar show, the largest hospitality trade exhibition outside London. Tickets for the NRB Debate are priced at £60 (inc. lunch, wine and VAT) and are available from www.NRBDebate.co.uk.
Copies of the Art of The Restaurateur, published by Phaidon in 2012 will be available for NRB Debate delegates to purchase at a special price, and Lander will be happy to sign them. The NRB Debate will also feature Nigel Haworth and Craig Bancroft, legends of the Northern hospitality scene responsible for the Michelin starred Northcote and Ribble Valley Inns.
In addition a hearty buffet lunch will be supplied courtesy of the award-winning New Moon Pub Co.
The NRB Debate forms part of Northern Hospitality Week, five days of industry debates and special one-off business events. In addition to the NRB Debate and the NRB exhibition this includes the NRB Top 50 as well as industry charity dinners such as Action Against Hunger's Too Many Critics Manchester, a host of industry association meetings and visitor discounts and special offers in bars and restaurants.
