Reservoirs among auction successes
Auctioneer Pugh & Co raised £3.6m at its latest Manchester sale, with former United Utilities reservoirs among lots attracting strong interest.
The Brushes Clough reservoir and 34 adjoining acres in Oldham sold for £22,000, compared to a guide price of £10,000.
The former Besom Hill reservoir, with 11 acres, also in Oldham, had a guide price of £5,000 and went for £20,000.
Pugh sold 68% of commercial properties and 79% of residential properties at the Manchester auction held in July.
Paul Thompson, auctioneer for Pugh and The Auction People, said: "We're very pleased with the results on behalf of United Utilities. We offered ten lots in total, including the reservoirs, and the sale prices far exceeded what they could have achieved through a private treaty basis."
A three-storey, 30-bedroom hotel on Blackpool's South Promenade sold for £225,000, off a guide of £120,000.
A former purpose-built ambulance station in Rochdale, complete with triple bay garage and mess accommodation, sold for £192,000, or £46,000 above its asking price of £146,000.
The next Pugh auction in Manchester is on Thursday 12 September for which entries will be invited until Wednesday 7 August.
