Renaker completes Salford’s tallest tower
Cortland at Colliers Yard provides 559 apartments across 51 floors in the emerging Greengate district.
Renaker, which sold the Salford skyscraper to a JV between build-to-rent investor/operator Cortland and Madison International Realty in 2021, has completed the scheme, which is the first of three towers the developer is building in the area.
Victoria Quinlan, president of Cortland in Europe, said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming our first residents to Cortland at Colliers Yard later this year to experience what is fast becoming a vibrant and exciting place to live, work and socialise.”
Designed OMI Architects – with Denton Corker Marshall appointed as delivery architect – the scheme features a three-storey brick podium offering 25,000 sq ft of amenity space and shops, restaurants, and bars.
Also included in the scheme is Greengate Park, an area of public realm.
Andrew Lofthouse, chief executive at Renaker, said: “The completion of Cortland is an exciting and significant step in the delivery of the Greengate masterplan.
“As residents move in and Greengate Park opens, Colliers Yard will truly start to come to life. We look forward to welcoming residents and the wider community to the neighbourhood.”
Work on the second tower, called Bankside is underway. This project will rise to 43 storeys and provide 444 homes.
The 518-apartment third tower, Parkside, won planning approval earlier this year and will reach 41 storeys.

Uninspiring, grey nondescript irregular blocks sandwiched between a motorway and a viaduct with car parks as public realm connected by dark, dirty, and dingy underpasses, those red lights may give the impression of Manhattan at night from 10 miles away but on the ground, this is probably some of the worst ‘planned’ developments in the country which pays little regard to the human scale or the interaction people have on ground. As a young person, I feel frustrated that I have to choose between living in a shoddy HMO in the inner city/suburbs or pay more than half my salary to live in these drab out-of-fashion grey blocks.

Good to see this cluster developing to Balance the New Jackson st.cluster. With Trinity Towers and the new developments on Regent rd they’ll almost be joined up.

I agree. This is a terribly planned area with car park instead of quality public realm. Planting a few trees and a little patch of grass shouldn’t give developers the righ to call this a park. Salford and Manchester city council demand so little from the developers. We can do much better.

Johnny, I’m not quite sure where you are getting your facts from however, no car park has been built by the developer here. In fact, a surface level car park has been replaced by 559 quality homes for people. People need to educate themselves properly on matters before spouting vitriol.
