Plans in for transformation of Southport’s Crown Buildings

Located on Eastbank Street in the town centre, the 15,000 sq ft listed building is to be converted into an enterprise hub for start-ups.

Sefton Council has lodged a planning application for the £1.5m redevelopment of the four-storey Crown Buildings, known as Enterprise Arcade.

The development will provide a space for freelancers, entrepreneurs and independent professionals to work and collaborate, offering both high-tech and affordable workspaces.

The scheme, adjacent to Southport’s Cambridge Walks shopping arcade, is designed by K2 Architects and is one of Sefton Council’s Town Deal projects. Its application reference number with Sefton Council is DC/2022/02113.

Cambridge Walks is also due to undergo refurbishment in the new year, while work to upgrade the public realm on surrounding streets is also in the offing.

Sefton was awarded £37.5m for a raft of Town Deal projects, including the creation of the Marine Lake Events Centre on the town’s waterfront.

“The Town Deal represents an opportunity to attract new skills and jobs into the area,” according to documents submitted to Sefton Council.

“It offers a vehicle for investment in the town centre’s social infrastructure, creating spaces for local entrepreneurs and professionals to meet and deliver projects bound together by the spirit of local pride.”
