PLANNING I Castlefield schemes and Shudehill hotel set for approval

Capital & Centric’s Talbot Mill  is among the schemes recommended for approval ahead of Manchester City Council’s planning meeting next Thursday.

Talbot Mill ‘s approval is subject to agreement on Section 106 financial contributions to affordable housing, as is a scheme by DeTrafford Estates, also in the Castlefield area. Fred Done vehicle Salboy’s Shudehill aparthotel, deferred for a site visit at November’s committee, has been recommended for approval.

Being such a tall building at its highest point, this scheme has attracted close attention, with more than 150 letters submitted. An independent review had been carried out by Stephen Hodder, who recommended removing a floor from the tallest part of the building, but described the use of space on such a tight site as “ingenious”.

New build scheme on the site of Unit 5 Bentinck Industrial Estate as part of a series of apartment blocks by DeTrafford – sites on each side also have approval for 11 storey developments, while the One Ellesmere Street Roof Gardens scheme behind is under construction. Twenty six apartments would be one-bedroom and 53 two-bed.

Conversion of the existing mill complex and the addition of a new nine-storey building.The scheme, a neighbour to Timber Wharf and Burton Place, will offer 63 one-bedroom and 139 two-bedroom apartments in all. The project includes demolition of several buildings including the Engine House, although the Timekeeper’s Lodge is to be retained and used as amenity space. New bridges would link Mills 1 and 2, which will respectively have one and two floors added.
