Places Matter to hold workshop on urban design concepts
Places Matter, the publicly funded architecture and built environment think-tank for the North West, is holding a day of discussion and workshops aimed at exploring alternative ways of planning cities and redesigning the neighbourhoods within them.
The event, titled How to Design the Happy City, is a collaboration between Liverpool Biennial and Places Matter.
It has been inspired by architect Carolyn Steel's book, Hungry City, Happy City, and will be held at St Winefride's & St Richard's School in Bootle, Liverpool.
Guest speakers already confirmed include:
- Joost Beunderman, research associate at DEMOS
- Michael Palwyn, director at Exploration Architecture
- Ian McArthur, regional director of Groundwork (North West)
- Marcus Dixon, Savills
- Pete Halsall, Bioregional Quintain
- Mike Orpin, ASDA
The discussion and workshop is part of a five-day event in September, known as Urbanism 09, which is using the revitalised Leeds-Liverpool Canal, stretching through south Sefton and north Liverpool, as a focus of exploring and celebrating urban regeneration.
