Place event: Knowledge Economy Forum – maximising our assets

John Flamson, director of strategic partnerships & development at the University of Liverpool and Alex Solk, associate partner specialising in education buildings at architects Sheppard Robson will deliver the keynote speeches at the Knowledge Economy Forum hosted by Place on 30 September.

The event, sponsored by construction group Wates and hosted at Liverpool Science Park, will address the issue of how to maximise the knowledge assets of the North West.

The region has a substantial portfolio of assets, which includes more than a dozen universities, and science parks in Daresbury, Manchester, Liverpool and Lancaster among others. There are also several centres of excellence, many of which are of international importance, in health research and aerospace manufacturing research among others. The region's knowledge assets have grown considerably through both public and private sector investment in recent years but now face a period of austerity uncertainty.

The topics that will be explored at the event include the future of university research budgets, graduate retention, employer engagement and providing the right premises for science and technical companies.

The event at ic2 Liverpool Science Park will run from 8:30am with keynote speeches, followed by breakout roundtable sessions on funding, planning, design and policy, reconvening for a panel discussion and concluding with lunch at 1pm.

Other speakers at the event include Chloe Young, business development director of Liverpool Science Park and Steve Parry, managing director, Neptune Developments.
