Peel adds to MediaCityUK portfolio
Peel Group has bought the 72,500 sq ft Digital World Centre in Salford for an undisclosed amount from Charterhouse Property Group and The Lowry Centre Development Company.
The eight-floor building is next to the Lowry Outlet shopping complex within MediaCityUK.
Currently Digital World Centre is occupied by 10 long-term tenants, including Telegraph Media Group, Regus, Eagle Eye Solutions, Fast Web Media and a group of digital and media-related companies. In addition to office space, the centre has a ground floor leisure offering with Nando's Restaurant and on-site café bar Craft Brew.
The purchase is part of a series of acquisitions by Peel to expand its MediaCityUK holdings. In 2012 it bought the 80-unit Lowry Outlet from the Emerson Group, and in 2013 acquired the 58,000 sq ft Alexandra office building opposite Harbour Line Metrolink station.
Peel said that the centre would significantly extend the footprint of MediaCityUK and complement the existing office, production and retail facilities already established on both sides of the Manchester Ship Canal.
Stephen Wild, managing director of MediaCityUK, said: "Acquiring the Digital World Centre is a fantastic step forward for MediaCityUK as we expand the choice of flexible office space and enhance the destination offering for visitors.
"With occupancy levels continuing to increase, it's crucial that we maintain our commitment to providing small creative enterprises with choice and flexibility to support their organic growth. Equally, it's essential that we meet the demands of the burgeoning number of digital and tech start-ups."
