Orford Park contract goes to Galliford Try

Construction group Galliford Try has won the main contract for phase two of Warrington's £30m Orford Park Project.

The project will transform 50 acres of a former landfill site and adjacent parklands. There will be community, health and education facilities including a community sports village complete with pools, sports hall, health and fitness suite, football pitches, library, health centre and a Diploma Centre for 14-19 year-olds.

Bob Merriman, managing director of Galliford Try Construction North, based in Birchwood, said: "The award of this exciting regeneration project underlines our position as the leading construction company delivering across the leisure, health and well being sectors in the north west. We look forward to working in partnership with the council and their stakeholders to bring world class leisure and community health facilities to the people of Orford and the wider Warrington community."

Bam Nuttall are currently undertaking the phase one site prepartion works such as highways and site clearance.

Orford Park is being commissioned and overseen by organisations including the council in partnership with The Orford Neighbourhood Project, Warrington Collegiate, Warrington Wolves, William Beamont High School, Warrington Disability Partnership, Warrington Borough Transport and NHS Warrington.

Funding for the project comes from the North West Development Agency, Sport England North West Region, the Football Foundation and the Big Lottery Fund.

Scheduled to open in early 2012, Orford Park is expected to have two million visitors each year.
