NW councils launch framework for £10m-plus contracts
The country's largest contractors will compete to land one of up to five places on a roster to construct public buildings over the next four years for local authorities across the North West.
The value of the framework will depend on the schemes brought forward in the contract period but the official estimate gives a range of between £250m and £750m. The panel will cover both refurbishment and new-build design and construction jobs.
A long list of the types of buildings to be delivered through the framework includes schools, fire stations, recreation centres, bus depots, libraries, and retirement homes.
The North West Construction Hub joint procurement body is being managed by Manchester City Council and covers Cumbria, Merseyside, Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Cheshire. It is part of the Government's North West Improvement and Efficiency Partnership, aimed at helping councils save money through collaboration.
An earlier tender worth up to £1bn was published in March for jobs between £500,000 and £10m. Later this year, a third tender will be published for works up to £500,000 each. Today's tender is the largest that will come under the collaboration, the first of its kind covering the North West.
A suppliers' day event will be held at the Swallow Hotel in Preston on 24 June to explain the aims and workings of the NW Construction Hub.
