Northstone progresses Wigan resi

Approval would see Peel L&P’s homebuilder deliver more than 100 houses, bungalows, and apartments to the 2.5-acre plot off Stothert Street in Atherton.

Northstone’s scheme would deliver a mix of one- to three-bedroom homes in Wigan.

Residents would also have access to more than 100,000 sq ft of green space.

Plans follow a public consultation held in January, where the homebuilder welcomed feedback on what household technology and sustainability measures residents would like to see.

Submitted proposals include smart technology designed to save heat and water use, as well as triple-glazed windows to reduce residents’ energy bills.

Properties would be available for private rent and managed by Letta, also a part of the Peel L&P group. The build-to-rent company would provide 24-hour property management services to tenants.

Turley is the planning consultant for the scheme. Shape Engineering is consulting on drainage and Cundalls is consulting on noise.

TEP is advising on arboriculture and ecology.

The scheme’s planning application is not yet available on Wigan Council’s planning portal.

Bernadette Barry, senior development manager, said: “In light of the current housing crisis Northstone, in partnership with Letta, wants to ensure local renters aren’t forgotten…

“We also recognise that new tenants are looking for more than just a house, they want to live in a neighbourhood which has an inclusive and inviting environment.” She added.

“That is why our plans include dedicated green space surrounding our homes for use by residents and local people, so that the whole community can benefit from this new neighbourhood.”

Northstone is active throughout the North West, soon to be starting construction on 208 homes in Bolton.

Last month, the homebuilder unveiled its £12m plans to build 50 homes in the Lancashire village of Edenfield.

Good to see we’re making the best use of available land by building two storey houses and nothing else. This will really help solve the housing shortage
