North West councils given funding for transport projects

Road Safety Minister Jim Fitzpatrick has announced communities within the North West will each get a share of £3.5m of extra funding for innovative road safety projects.
The three local authorities benefiting from the funding includes:
- Oldham – receiving up to £480,000
- Lancashire – receiving up to £857,850
- The new Cheshire East council – receiving up to £597,000
The local authorities will use the funding for road safety problems in its areas by using new techniques, before sharing evidence with other authorities and agencies.
Five other local authorities in Staffordshire, Derbyshire, Warwickshire, Bristol and London will also get a slice of the new funding.
The money is in addition to the £110m given to local authorities each year to spend on road safety and local transport capital funding support of about £1.3bn per year.
