Nominations required for Rochdale design awards

Rochdale council is asking local residents to nominate their favourite building design.

The Rochdale Borough Design Awards 2009 recognise developments from individual buildings to area-wide schemes, open spaces and conservation projects.

Andrew Eadie, who works in the planning and regulation service at Rochdale Council, said: "The design competition is for buildings completed between July 2007 and December 2008. It was launched last November, but we have extended the deadline for nominations from the original March date."

The awards will build on the success of the recently published Oldham and Rochdale Urban Design Guide Supplementary Planning Documents.

The two awards to be won include:

  • Rochdale Borough People's Design Award
  • Rochdale Borough Design Award

All the developments which have been nominated will be considered by a panel of experts with design expertise, who will then decide the winner of the Rochdale Borough Design Award.

The closing date for nominations is Friday 1 May 2009.

A nomination form gives guidance in respect of what makes good design, which will be the criteria used by the judging panel for the Rochdale Borough Design Award.

A ceremony will then take place this summer to announce the winners of both awards.

Nomination forms can be obtained by visiting the Rochdale Council Website
