Nobles begins next phase of Royal Court revamp

Nobles Construction has started work on a £720,000 contract to restore Liverpool's Royal Court theatre.

Nobles was appointed by the Royal Court Liverpool Trust and will redecorate the 15 metre high auditorium, remodel cabaret-style seating in the stalls, improve lighting, and fit new seating in the Grand Circle. A new permanent ramp into the stalls area will improve access to the theatre and essential items such as fire safety equipment will complete the works, which are expected to last around three months.

The work is part of an overall £10.6m refurbishment of the Roe Street venue designed by architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris.

Peter Linford, director at Nobles Construction, said: "The Royal Court is a Liverpool institution with an outstanding heritage and, as a proud Merseyside business ourselves, to secure this contract is a special moment for us."

Gillian Miller, founder and chief executive of the Royal Court Liverpool Trust, said: "It has long been our aim to restore the theatre to its rightful place as the city's premier performing arts destination and to create somewhere that the people of Liverpool can be truly proud of."

Jonathan Falkingham, chief executive of Urban Splash and a trustee of Royal Court Liverpool Trust, said: "We had a long list of possible contractors for this project. Nobles stood out from the start as fitting our brief of being a highly competitive operation with a strong local bias."

Nobles Construction worked on the restoration of Neptune Theatre, now called Epstein Theatre, St George's Hall, Knowsley Hall, and Merseyside Maritime Museum at Albert Dock.
