NHS trust awards energy review contract
Bolton NHS Foundation Trust has appointed London-based Breathe Energy to a £7.6m contract to conduct an energy review and install more efficient technologies.
The foundation trust, which has two dozen sites across the borough, the main one being Royal Bolton Hospital, said it needed to address a "high risk maintenance backlog" and it required a new cooling system as a priority on "extremely tight time-scales for implementation".
A spokesman for the trust said: "The estate at Bolton is compact, and is complex, with an existing incineration facility for clinical waste which produces a large portion of the estates steam infrastructure network. Part of the estate may be reduced, and there is a legacy of plant which has passed its natural life. The key objectives for Bolton are to reduce operational costs, energy consumption and carbon emissions. Bolton wish to use the competitive dialogue procedure to establish the best course of action for the trust, given the complexities in relation to the estate, the estate strategy, cooling requirements and overall operational needs."
