Trafford Youth Village shortlisted for interior award
The £4m Trafford Youth Village: The Fuse Project in Partington, Greater Manchester, is competing for an award at the Mixology North Awards 2011.
The project is hoping to win the Public Sector Interior of the Year award at a ceremony being held at The Palace Hotel in Manchester on 17 November.
Liverpool-based interiors and fit-out consultancy Team a go-go were appointed to consult with young people and design and implement the interiors for the project.
The scheme was funded by the Government's Myplace initiative, which is delivered by the BIG Fund, the non Lottery arm of the Big Lottery Fund.
West Trafford Development Company appointed BAM Construction as contractor on the scheme in September last year to carry out a 44-week building programme, while Ellis Williams Architects was also part of the project team.
Kate Stewart, managing director of Team a go-go, said: "We are delighted to have been shortlisted in this important category, which recognises value for money and social impact of projects as well as visual impact. Working with a small budget, our design team have met the clients aspirations and created a vibrant and sustainable environment for the whole community.
"We have not simply chosen furniture, we have worked in partnership with the architect and contractor and based on the workshops we ran with both young people and staff, we have influenced the internal layout, specified colours and finishes including flooring, lighting, walls, washrooms, lockers, acoustic treatments and have chosen, procured and installed lose and fixed items including bespoke shopfit elements."
Other shortlisted projects for the award include BBC's studios at Media City UK by SR:ID and Ferndene Children & Young People's Service, Prudhoe by MAAP.
Judges in the category include Simon Jackson, principal at Gensler; Bronte Turner, head of interiors at HLW; Andrew Bartlett, director of Tilney Shane; Gurvinder Khurana, Essentia Designs; Diana Monkhouse, senior associate at Swanke Hayden Connell and Chris Carpenter, managing director of Stills Design.
Mixology North is run by contract interiors magazine Mix Interiors.
