Trafford hotel to be auctioned online

A hotel less than a mile from MediaCityUK, currently empty and in need of repair, is to go under the online auction hammer with John Pye Property Auctions at the end of January.

The grade two-listed Trafford Park Hotel in Third Avenue is located three miles from Manchester city centre.

Richard Reed, head of property at John Pye Property Auctions, said: “This early Edwardian building was completed in 1902, and still retains plenty of original period features.

“Listed at around £300,000 to £350,000, the property has fantastic potential and is suitable for a variety of uses, subject to planning. If planning permission was obtained for a change of use, up to 35 apartments could be created.

“These apartments could fetch anything from £80,000 to £120,000, giving an investor a potential GDV of up to £3.5m. It is currently in a poor state of repair, and would need considerable investment to bring it back into use.”

The building is being sold on behalf of fixed charged receivers.

The hotel is part of a £7m auction featuring a range of residential and commercial properties.

Reed added: “The John Pye online property auction has grown significantly since its inception. Due to increased demand we have decided to increase the frequency of our online property auctions to every three weeks. This will mean a total of 16 auctions will be held throughout 2017.”

If there were public realm improvements, this could have a stunning setting.

What a beautiful building! Could it not remain as a hotel of the boutique variety? For the more discerning or prawn sandwich throwing variety of football spectator?

Strange site for such an elaborate building. It is like the Duckworth building in Old Trafford. Both seem out of kilter with their immediate surroundings.
