St Modwen signs retailer to Connah’s Quay project

St Modwen has signed national retailer Home Bargains to a new £15m development in Connah's Quay, Flintshire.

The retailer has leased 6,200 sq ft at 10.48/sq ft and joins local businesses Connah's Quay MOT Testing Centre and Deeside Fish and Chip Shop at the Ffordd Llanarth scheme.

The Deeside District Centre, being developed by St Modwen, is anchored by a 52,000 sq ft Morrisons food store and includes an additional twelve retail units, 325 car parking spaces, improved pedestrian links and a bus pick-up point.

Paul Batho, project director at St Modwen, said: "This is great news for Flintshire. Home Bargains is one of a number of deals we have already secured for the site and we are in advanced discussions with a number of well known retail operators who are keen to be part of the scheme.

"We're aiming to provide a good variety of shops at the development and it is anticipated that hundreds of jobs will be created once the retail centre opens."

The 6-acre development is already taking shape following the completion of the steel frame for the retail units.

Demolition of the original centre, built in the 1970's, started in June last year and was completed two months later.

Construction of the new district centre will be complete in the summer of this year before being handed over to the retailers to start work on the internal fit-out of the units.

Outline planning consent was granted to St Modwen in April 2008 by Flintshire Council.

Morgan Ashurst is contractor on the scheme. Cheetham & Mortimer are agents.
