Rochdale Riverside adds H&M

The retailer has signed up for a 22,500 sq ft store at the £80m development, joining anchor tenants Reel Cinemas, M&S, Next, River Island, JD Sports, and Boots.

The 200,000 sq ft scheme is now 60% let following H&M’s deal. It includes 24 retail units alongside the six-screen Reel cinema, along with 520 car parking spaces. Willmott Dixon is the contractor and is set to hand over the scheme in 2020; Genr8 is the developer while M&G has forward-funded the project.

H&M’s deal leaves 16 units available; these are primarily smaller, with the largest at 10,000 sq ft and most ranging between 4,000 sq ft and 1,000 sq f t.

Cheetham & Mortimer and Lambert Smith Hampton are the joint agents.

Cllr Allen Brett, leader of Rochdale Borough Council, said: “Rochdale Riverside is a major part of our ongoing £400m regeneration programme, which is creating a thriving town centre that people increasingly want to visit and spend time in. It’s clear that Rochdale is on the up.

“H&M is a great addition to this scheme, and we expect their presence will encourage other potential occupiers to come on board. I’m pleased to see this landmark project reach another key milestone and we look forward to making more positive announcements.”

Mike Smith, partner at Genr8 Developments, added: “We are really pleased to agree a deal to bring H&M to Riverside. This is exactly the calibre of retail offering we are looking to bring to the scheme. The tenant mix we have already attracted will only be complemented by this deal.

“The scheme is now over 60% let and with works continuing to forge ahead, completion and launch will soon be upon us.”

This development feels like it’s 10-15 years too late somehow, but fair play to the developer for stcking with it and signing them.
