Peel sponsors Liverpool at Shanghai World Expo

Peel Holdings today confirmed it will sponsor the Liverpool Pavilion at the World Expo 2010.

The property and transport giant, owner of the Port of Liverpool, Liverpool John Lennon Airport and Manchester Ship Canal, is to spend more than £100,000 to become the headline sponsor of the Pavilion.

Around 70 million people are expected to visit the expo between 1 May and 31 October 2010.

Lindsey Ashworth, Peel development director, said: "The range of our group's activities in ports, airports, renewable energy, media and property development across the North West makes the Liverpool Pavilion at the Expo an excellent fit for our organisation.

"We will use the event as a platform to position investment opportunities and to showcase our expertise and credentials to a global audience.

"We are confident our Liverpool Waters and Wirral Waters proposals, plus the range of opportunities presented by Media City and by our ports and airports businesses, will attract significant interest at the event."

Liverpool is the only UK city except London to have a dedicated Pavilion at the event. The city's presence is being led by Liverpool Vision in partnership with Liverpool City Council, the Liverpool-Shanghai Partnership and the North West Development Agency.
