Leigh leisure centre sold to nursery operator

The former Lancastrian Squash Leisure Centre in Leigh is to be converted into a children's nursery after it exchanged hands for an undisclosed sum.

The 12,000 sq ft two-storey centre in East Bond Street was on the market with an asking price of £285,000. The property sits on a 0.75-acre site.

Nolan Redshaw acted on behalf of a private vendor on the sale. The Avenue Private Day Nursery, which bought the site, was unrepresented.

Neil Higson, senior surveyor at Nolan Redshaw, said: "It is great to have achieved the sale of this landmark building in Leigh as part of our growing number of instructions within Lancashire."

The nursery operator will carry out a full refurbishment of the property, which is located next to the proposed Transport for Greater Manchester guided busway route.
