Icon secures consent for £100m Airport City scheme

The joint venture between Stoford and TPG Real Estate has been given the go-ahead to build two logistics units totalling nearly 250,000 sq ft at Manchester Airport.

The developer’s logistics park at the airport has outline consent for 1m sq ft of employment space and submitted reserved matters applications for two units in December and January this year.

The largest of these is 138,300 sq ft, split between logistics space and a 10,125 sq ft office, along with 132 car parking spaces. Another unit of 102,500 sq ft, including 95,000 sq ft of industrial space along with a 7,500 sq ft office, is also proposed.

Icon Manchester is also set to house The Hut Group’s logistics and global content creation studio, which in the first phase will see the development of a 168,000 sq ft warehouse and 104,000 sq ft of offices over four floors. Other tenants at the site include Amazon and DHL.

Stoford and TPG bought the 45-acre site within Airport City last summer.

Dan Gallagher, joint managing director of Stoford Developments, said: “These developments offer an excellent opportunity to relocate to a key strategic location in the North West, with unrivalled airport connectivity and a strong list of current occupiers.

“Icon Manchester Airport is a unique and exciting scheme that will continue the fulfillment of the Airport City masterplan, expanding and enhancing the logistical facilities on site. We are already seeing significant interest in the development.”

Icon’s retained agents are CBRE, JLL, and DTRE.
