Green light for ‘much-improved’ Trafford hotel

Councillors praised Create Developments for the changes it made to a previously refused scheme and voted unanimously to approve the company’s plans for a 147-bedroom Hampton by Hilton hotel off Barton Road in Stretford.

Blackpool-based Create submitted scaled-back plans for a seven-storey hotel in December after Trafford Council’s planning committee had turned down a larger iteration of the scheme earlier in the year.

The original proposals mooted a nine-storey, 197-bedroom hotel, but the developer was forced back to the drawing board amid concerns over car parking provision and the scale of the scheme.

Create subsequently slashed the number of rooms by 50 and reduced the number of floors by two. The building’s footprint was also reduced, from 12,500 sq ft to 10,000 sq ft, while the number of parking spaces was increased to 147 from 127.

Cllr Dave Acton said the project, designed by AEW Architects, was “much improved” and praised the developer for engaging with local residents to address problems with the previous proposals.

Cllr Mike Cordingley agreed, saying that the second application was “far better” than the original.

Iceni Projects advised Create on planning.

If this is the improved design then original must have been an eyesore.

Let’s not pretend that this is anything other than architectural tat. A truly awful design that all parties should be ashamed of.
