Gilling Dod wins Blackpool hospital design

Gilling Dod Architects has been selected to design a new inpatient mental health unit in Blackpool for Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust.

The Harbour will occupy land known locally as Whyndyke Farm. It is anticipated that the new development will be completed by early 2014 and will replace the trust's existing facilities on the Fylde Coast that are no longer suitable for delivering modern mental health care.

The new facility will ensure that the trust has the facilities to provide high quality care within a therapeutic, purpose designed environment. The new unit will feature private bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, garden areas and a range of facilities required to support a person's recovery and the maintenance of their everyday living skills.

The trust and its long term strategic estates partner, Ryhurst are utilising the NHS Procure 21+ framework with Integrated Health Projects, a joint venture between Vinci Construction and Sir Robert McAlpine.
