New plans for Burnley after Debenhams pulls out

Henry Boot has reduced the size of its £40m shopping centre scheme in Burnley by 70,000 sq ft after Debenhams turned down an anchor deal.
The department store pulled out of talks to take an 85,000 sq ft store at what was then to be the 250,000 sq ft Oval scheme because of concerns the location was too secondary.
The move has meant Henry Boot has had to scrap its original idea for a department store to anchor the project. Instead, three 10,000 sq ft stores will be created, reducing the total size of the mall to 180,000 sq ft.
Next, H&M and Philip Green's Arcadia Group are now in talks with the developer to take the smaller stores.
