Mulbury breaks ground on Tyldesley homes
Developer Mulbury has started work on a £5.3m affordable housing scheme on a former pub near Wigan.
The development, to be called Rose Meadows, will feature 40 houses, half of which will be available for shared ownership and the remainder available for rent-to-buy.
Rose Meadows, on the of the former Homeground Pub a mile-and-a-half from the centre of Atherton, is scheduled to take 12 months to complete, with the first properties to be available in mid-2020.
Rose Meadows is part-funded through a strategic partnership deal with Homes England. JLL is the planner, while Mulbury is working with housing association Your Housing Group on the project.
Lorraine Donnelly, director of development for Your Housing Group, said: “We are really pleased to be able to invest in this part of Wigan. This development will provide much-needed affordable homes and enable local people to take their first step on the property ladder. The location is ideal for commuting to surrounding towns and to cities of Manchester and Liverpool.”
Nick Cumberland, senior specialist at Homes England, said: “Homes England is committed to working with partners to deliver more homes faster, helping communities and providing affordable housing using funding from the shared ownership and affordable homes programme. It’s great to see our funding helping to deliver affordable homes in Tyldesley.”
Greg Mulligan, director of Mulbury, said: “We’re helping housing providers across the North West to build quality homes that offer genuine housing choice to people in different circumstances. We’re proud to be working in partnership with Your Housing Group on these desirable new homes in this part of Greater Manchester.”
Be surprised if the homes that are not affordable-homes will be sold considering the location

What price is affordable? Anything over £100,000 is far from affordable for most young couples. This sounds like more pipe dreams. Mind you luxury homes and living up shack is a bit of an oxymoron.

Driving up onto the estate from the traffic lights is already chaotic due to the cars parked either side. How is it going to cope with the increase in cars. It is going to be quite dangerous. Have the planners actually been to the site? Or is it a case of money talks AGAIN.
