M&S lines up Colne foodhall
The retailer wants to build a 24,748 sq ft store adjacent to forecourt operator EG on the Move’s Colne services, where Whitewalls Drive meets the M65.
Consultation for the project is now live, ahead of a planning application going in to Pendle Council.
M&S hopes to secure planning permission and start construction later this year, with an eye to opening in autumn 2027.
Landowner Monte Blackburn, the property business of the billionaire Issa brothers, told Place that the firm has no comment at this stage.
According to the online consultation pages, the trading floor area of the store will be 17,990 sq ft. Around 170 customer car parking places will be delivered, including EV charging spots.
M&S said that the foodhall building will feature rooftop photovoltaic panels.
Forecourt business EG On the Move, headed by Zuber Issa, opened its Colne location in November 2024, a new-build development that took the EG OTM operation to 45 sites – 34 were acquired from EG Group that same month.
EG On the Move Colne features a filling station, Spar, Starbucks, Subway and Sbarro. The development is close to Banny’s British Kitchen and Boundary Outlet Colne.
Elsewhere in Lancashire, a Monte/M&S project in Hyndburn has been the subject of a legal wrangle.
