Midland’s £14m upgrade nears completion
A refurbishment of the grade two-listed hotel building, including the modernisation of its 312 bedrooms, will complete by the end of this month, according to operator Leonardo Royal Hotels.
As well as refurbishing the Midland Hotel’s bedrooms, the project has also created a split-level bar on a raised platform in the main foyer of the Manchester building.
Belfast-based based interiors firm Sundara Design led the refurbishment, which was due to complete in June but was delayed due to the pandemic.
Additionally, the hotel has opened Mount Street, a British-style brasserie, as part of the relaunch.
The Midland has remained open throughout the refurbishment, aside from when it was forced to close due to Government advice during the Covid-19 lockdown earlier this year.
Located on Peter Street opposite Manchester Central Convention Centre, the hotel first opened in September 1903.
Stockholm-based hotel investor Pandox bought The Midland for £115m in November 2018 and Fattal Hotels Group, which owns Leonardo, was chosen to operate the venue.

The refurbishment follows a rebrand of the hotel’s on-site spa, which became known as Rena Spa at The Midland from November 2019.
