Merchant Taylors praises Bardsley

Dukinfield-based Bardsley Construction has been praised for work it is doing on behalf of Merchant Taylors' Schools in Crosby, north Liverpool.

Located at the boys' school site, Bardsley is building a 25,510 sq ft sports centre worth £5.5m.

The development was designed by Buttress Fuller Alsop Williams Architects and will include a dance studio, fitness suite and large indoor space for rugby, football, hockey, badminton and other sports.

Rick Walker, chairman of the governors building and development committee for Merchant Taylors' Schools, said: "Although undertaking an extensive new build, Bardsley Construction has had zero impact on the school's environment. We have been able to carry all duties as normal and we've received no complaints from the neighbouring residents, who we have been keeping regularly informed of progress."

Bardsley is part of a Considerate Constructor scheme, which is an independent scheme founded by the industry to improve its image.

The initiative was formed in 1997 and operates voluntary site and company codes of considerate practice, with which participating construction companies and sites can register.

The scheme is neither grant-maintained nor funded by the Government and is solely financed by its registrations.

Walker adds: "There has been occasional unannounced site visits by inspectors and I have filled in one general questionnaire all of which goes towards giving them an overall performance rating. I feel they certainly deserve the commendation as a considerate constructor."

The sports centre is due to be completed in May 2011 and be operational for the new school year starting in September this year.
