Mecanoo architect moves to FCB

Ernst ter Horst, the architect responsible for setting up the Manchester office of Dutch practice Mecanoo, has left the company to join Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios as an associate.

Ter Horst joined Mecanoo Architecten from SimpsonHaugh & Partners in 2011, and opened a studio in Manchester later that year.

The practice quickly secured several key projects, including HOME at First Street, the Manchester Engineering Campus Development for the University of Manchester, Oldham’s Coliseum Theatre and Heritage Centre, and most recently Capital & Centric and Henry Boot Developments’ Kampus. The studio is managed by partner architect Francesco Veenstra.

Also a new name in the city, Feilden Clegg Bradley launched its Piccadilly Basin studio in 2015. Led by managing partner Geoff Rich, the practice is working on the £7m redevelopment of Manchester Cathedral, and is advising Bruntwood and Select Property Group on the masterplan for the £750m Circle Square on Oxford Road.

A spokesman for Feilden Clegg Bradley said “we are delighted to welcome Ernst to our team”, but declined to comment further.
