McGoff sets 2018 opening target for Urmston food hall

The Altrincham property group has said that it will start on site early in the New Year on the development of an indoor food hall, named Market 41.

McGoff’s acquisition of the Railway Road site was revealed in August by Place North West, with the developer set to build three houses and a new food hall next to the existing market hall, which will continue to operate as before.

The business has now confirmed that it is looking to establish a destination featuring a mix of 10 to 12 food and drink operators positioned around a central seating area of 160-180 covers, serviced and staffed by Urmston Beverage & Leisure Company, a new division of the McGoff Group.

McGoff said that traders will be “carefully selected to ensure customers benefit from the very best quality and choice at competitive price points, providing something different from the existing retail offer in Urmston” and stressed its intention to focus on independent and small manufacturers working with locally sourced food and drink.

There will be a family focus, with baby-changing facilities and feeding rooms, children’s food and drink options and a small play area.

WMC Retail Partners, the London-based market manager, has been working with McGoff, along with Salford-based Street Design Partnership.

Chris McGoff, director at the McGoff Group, said: “Urmston is undergoing a real food-led revival and we’re proud to be playing a part in this, and in the ongoing investment and further development of the town centre.

“We’ll be working closely with The Urmston Partnership, which is a not-for profit organisation made up of local businesses, residents, community groups and organisations, with the aim of promoting Urmston, Flixton and Davyhulme as a great place to live, work and play.

“We want Market 41 to be integral to this, to contribute positively and to really enhance the town and increase its residential and commercial attractiveness. We’d like it to become the heart of the town, and a place to meet, eat or enjoy time with family and friends. Initial feedback has been really positive and we’re looking forward to getting started on site in the not too distant future.”

Such good news for Urmston. Lets hope this transforms the town centre into somewhere with a bit of class along with some of the lovely shops & bistros that we now have & drives out the rough pubs that bring down the reputation of Urmston at night.
