Mayfield plans on show at Piccadilly
Landowner BRB Residuary is to display plans for the transformation of the area around Piccadilly railway station in Manchester next week.
The exhibition on Monday 25 January and Tuesday 26 January will be held on the main concourse at Piccadilly station between 3pm and 8pm. Members of the public will be able to speak to experts about the aims and ambitions of the scheme.
BRB, part of the Department for Transport, took over land around certain stations after British Rail was split up and sold off.
The Mayfield plan envisages housing up to 5,000 civil servants and creating a new public park in a largely neglected approach to the city. It focuses on the former Mayfield railway station and covers an area bordered by the inner ring road south, Fairfield Street to the north and London Road to the west.
The aim is to combine the benefits of joined-up government delivering better public services with much needed regeneration.
A feasibility study into the proposed civil service campus was announced by the then Regional Minister Beverley Hughes in May 2009. The masterplan was prepared by Drivers Jonas LLP and architects Bennetts Associates.
