May start date for Wigan apartments

Centric Developments is aiming to start work on a 45-apartment scheme in Wigan next month, and has instructed consultants Knight Knox to market the development for sale.

The proposals by Centric are to convert the existing Victoria Mills, formerly home to Shearings Holidays, into a mix of studio, one-bed and two-bed apartments over two floors.

The developer, which is headed up by Kieran Moore, also a director at Fortis Developments, is aiming to secure planning consent at next month’s committee meeting, due to be held on 15 May.

Subject to approval, the developer said work will start in the same month, although a contractor has not yet been appointed, and the project is set to complete by Q1 2019.

Overall, the Victoria Mills building covers around 36,300 sq ft.

Andy Phillips, commercial director at Knight Knox, said: “With property prices and rents in Manchester city centre on an upward trajectory, Greater Manchester offers investors the chance to invest in the UK’s most promising rental market at a fraction of the cost.

“We anticipate that areas such as Wigan will continue to become more popular alongside the growth of Manchester, mirroring the trend of commuter town price rises around London.”
