Luxury apartments planned in Dunham

After failing to attract a buyer for a single luxury home on a Green Belt site near Dunham Massey, developer Phoenix has rejigged its plans to bring forward six apartments.

The apartments are planned for a prominent plot on the main route from Altrincham and Bowdon to Dunham Massey, which is known as Levenot.

A vacant house currently sits on the site and is to be demolished; the developer had originally secured planning permission for a large detached home on the site in 2016, which was granted on appeal.

However, after trying and failing to attract a buyer for a single luxury home after several attempts, the company has instead redesigned the scheme to include six apartments.

Designed by architect Grays, alongside landscape architect Barnes Walker, the rejigged design largely sits within the parameters of the existing planning permission for a single house, although elements including additional parking, a car lift, and a communal garden have been added.

The existing vacant home is to be knocked down and replaced with several interlinked buildings housing individual apartments, with extensive landscaping including front gates, a hedgerow, retention of trees, additional tree planting, and sunken patio areas to the rear.

The apartments are divided between the separate elements of the building; the main house, the orangery, and coach house. This is clad in red brick and will be built in a traditional style.

Emery Planning is advising the developer on the scheme and has now submitted a planning application for the project to Trafford Council.

Have often wondered what was going to happen with this site. Hope in Barnes Walkers’ capable hands it will be something sympathetic to the location rather than just a ‘contemporary take on traditional architecture’…yawn.

Is it not possible to build affordable homes

By Anonymous

@Anonymous. Presumably you are not familiar with the location. This site would be entirely unsuitable for affordable housing with very limited public transport links and social infrastructure. It is a semi rural location off a dual carriage way. This is a not a location for us ‘normal’ people.

Thank you Major Grump, we’ll try our best!

Exceptional circumstances?

By Bowdonia

I know of these developers. They build very high spec apartments and homes in the area. My friend owns a house which they built in Bowden and so I’m quite excited about this! Hopefully there will be something here for my mother. I will be watching out with great anticipation.
