Liverpool One collects two BCSC awards
Grosvenor's £1bn Liverpool One development has been bestowed with two Gold awards at the BCSC annual dinner held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
The 42-acre site won its first Gold in the category of "in-town retail scheme more than 300,000 sq ft". In addition, Liverpool One received a coveted Supreme Gold from the BCSC judges, and was cited as having raised the bar in the industry.
Miles Dunnett, head of asset management, Grosvenor Liverpool Fund, said: "Liverpool One has helped to revitalise and re-energise one of the UK's most important cities, and retailers are seeing significant benefits as a consequence. The BCSC Golds recognise that and it is a great accolade, not just for Grosvenor and the team involved in creating and running Liverpool One, but for its retailers, caterers, other occupiers and city-wide stakeholders. Most importantly, however, this is Liverpool's success."
Neil Varnham, chairman of the BCSC Gold Awards jury and director of Cadena, added: "Liverpool One is probably one of the most challenging regeneration projects of our time – achieving the maintenance of the urban grain, with a revitalised retail offer linking the scheme to the dock area. It is undoubtedly a benchmark for the UK shopping centre industry in demonstrating successful delivery of the Government's urban agenda. It has truly regenerated one of our most well-known cities."
The BCSC Golds are the latest in a series of awards to have been given to Liverpool One. Footfall at Liverpool One is up by 20% compared to the same time in 2008 and a series of new brands have recently opened. These included the city's first Habitat after more than a decade out of the city, which opened yesterday, as well as Jaeger, Whistles, Reiss, The Entertainer, Mama & Papas' first city centre store in the North West, and Hollister, which opened today.
