Lime Street student flats approved
Turley has secured full planning permission on behalf of Butler Company and NALM for a student accommodation development on a vacant site next to Lime Street station in Liverpool.
The proposal involves towers of 17 and 21 storeys, designed by Liverpool-based architects Falconer Chester Hall.
The majority of the wider site has already been developed for student accommodation, known as Grand Central.
Hotel use was previously granted planning consent at the site, but was not implemented due to changing market conditions.
Turley’s specialist heritage team advised on the scheme, which took into consideration the significance and setting of nearby listed buildings, including Lime Street Station, St George’s Hall, and Crown pub.

How many more student beds can the market take as it’s only 1st year students who want to be in these blocks anyway….

Henners – surely the developer has already thought about that and concluded there is sufficient demand to make this viable?

I believe more and more students from overseas sign up for a “package” of accomondation
which requires modern and secure buildings.
Also,with capping reduced on Uni places, do the developers know something we don’t?

Decent places for students coming and spending money in the city centre and dilapidated houses around Smithdown etc freed up for families/renovation. I don’t see the hoo-ha over these? Okay they aren’t exactly St George’s Hall architecturally, but they’re far from the worst we’ve seen for this building type.
The focus instead needs to be on encouraging these students once they graduate to stay, buy homes, and create jobs in Liverpool. Something places like Manchester appear to do much better…
